Today, Vivo launched its flagship Vivo X200 series at Beijing’s famous Water Cube (aka the National Aquatics Center). We got the device a few days early, so our team had time to try it out and test it before our in-depth review.

Vivo X200 Pro looks stylish, but feels heavy
Out of the box, the X200 Pro feels high-end. It has flat edges and a metal frame, giving it a serious flagship feel. We have the sapphire model, which mimics ocean waves in the light. I’m not sure if everyone will like it, but it definitely stands out. The camera app uses artificial intelligence across the board
The camera app on the X200 Pro has been greatly improved. Vivo has added a lot of AI features to make shooting a breeze. But be aware that almost all of the excellent custom features have been developed for domestic users using various Chinese apps. For overseas markets, the brand must cooperate with Google’s Gemini

Turn on automatic mode and AI vision in portrait mode
Portrait mode is smarter than ever, and what about landscape mode? They seem to have collected the essence of all non-portrait photography related modes (such as super night mode, panorama mode, and star trail mode) and mixed them together. I guess the logic of the software administrators is that they want to divide the custom modes into two categories, one for portraits and one for landscapes. They are like two folders, and the advantage is that they are easy to distinguish. The disadvantage is that you have to “turn on” (switch to them) first-this step may be difficult for ordinary users. One of my favorite features in the upgrade is Zeiss perspective correction. When you look up slightly to shoot certain scenes, especially buildings, you will always be troubled by perspective. On the X200 series, it automatically crops and generates a horizontal perspective for users in real time. It can instantly improve the look and composition of photos.

In addition, video capabilities have also made great progress, especially in dark environments. We are talking about 4K at 120fps and 8K at 30fps, which perform well in dark scenes. For all you vloggers out there, there’s a new vertical video mode that’s sure to up your game. The initial quality of the video was pretty impressive, but we wanted to test the camera in detail to make a final judgement. More importantly, it’s fun and we couldn’t get through everything in one go.
The main camera has been replaced with a brand new sensor, the SONY LTY818, which measures 1/1.28 inches. It’s claimed to have better video shooting capabilities. All of this goodness is driven by the latest MTK Dimensity 9400 chip. We’re still running some benchmarks (Antutu Benchmark: First Mobile Chipset to Exceed 3,000,000), so stay tuned for detailed performance details. But so far, the phone runs pretty smooth and we can expect performance from this chip.
In addition, vivo and MediaTek jointly developed and launched the world’s first kilometer-level network-free communication technology, which can achieve point-to-point long-distance communication through Bluetooth connection in an environment without network and signal. Supports SOS SMS broadcast, one-to-one voice/text intercom, map location display and other functions. Within a certain distance, the phone turns into a walkie-talkie and forms a local area network communication with other vivo users. All in all, the Vivo X200 Pro is expected to be a strong competitor in the high-end smartphone market. With its focus on photography, powerful chips and AI functions, Vivo is clearly vying for the top spot. Of course, the camera bump is large and may not be to everyone’s taste, but if you are interested in photo and video life, this is definitely a phone worth a look.
