Vivo’s flagship X-series has produced some great phones in recent years, and news is starting to emerge that the company’s latest model, the X90 series, could be available before the end of the year. Here’s everything we know about the Vivo X90 so far.
When will the Vivo X90 be released?
Several websites are now reporting that Vivo intends to launch the new X90 series in November or December 2022. This seems likely, as Vivo used a roughly six-month schedule in previous releases. The X80 series debuted in China last April and launched globally in May, while the X70 model debuted in September 2021. There are currently rumors that there will be three models in the lineup: Vivo X90, Vivo X90 Pro and Vivo X90 Pro+.
What are the specifications and features of the Vivo X90?
We haven’t seen any official announcements about the physical specs of the X90 series, but at a recent Imaging Strategy conference, Vivo revealed some details about the sensors and other features that will power the cameras when the flagships arrive.
Vivo leveraged its long-term partnership with Zeiss to develop new technologies, primarily addressing low-light photography and portraits. This is achieved through several components, including new lenses and special coatings designed to reduce noise in images.
At the event, the company showcased its new True Color Restoration Engine and Ultra Sharp Image Quality Engine, which use computational photography to deliver optimal white balance, image quality and dynamic range, GSMArena reported. There’s also some neat tech to ensure that detail is balanced in portraits, and Vivo claims the phone’s new camera sensor is 77 percent more light-sensitive than the previous generation, which speaks to the advancement in low-light images.
In the specs department, a recent leak from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station seems to outline some of what we’re most likely to see in the new lineup. He said that the standard Vivo X90 will feature a 1.5K resolution display, support 120W charging, and be equipped with the new MediaTek Dimensity 9200 SoC, which will replace the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 that appeared in the Vivo X80.
GizChina reports that Qualcomm processors will also be used in the series, which is no surprise since the X80 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. So we might see its successor, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, in the X90 Pro, and possibly the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 reserved for the flagship X90 Pro+.
As mentioned above, some new camera tech will be included, with a new 1-inch sensor rumored to appear, most likely the Sony IMX989. It’s very likely that Vivo will stick with the triple-camera array on the rear of the standard model and save the quad-camera configuration for the new Pro model.
The certification results also tell us that all three phones will get a battery boost from their predecessors. The vivo X90 will be equipped with a 4700mAh capacity battery, the vivo X90 Pro is certified to be 4870mAh, and the vivo X90 Pro+ will be equipped with a 5000mAh battery.
As you can see, the details we’ve received so far are a bit confusing, but soon we’ll see the finished product from Vivo.
