At present, according to the data of relevant research institutions, among the top five smartphone manufacturers in the global market share, three are from China, namely Xiaomi , OPPO and Vivo . In addition to these three, Huawei was once the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, but now its smartphone business has encountered considerable resistance. However, among these four manufacturers, only Huawei has the ability to develop its own mobile phone SOC for the time being. Xiaomi once had related products, but now it has given up this path. However, recently, China Mobile has noticed that OPPO’s self-developed mobile phone processor seems to be coming soon.
In fact, in the past two years, news about OPPO’s self-developed mobile phone processors has been circulating. It’s just that this is not a simple job, but a project that takes a long time to complete. Today, OPPO’s self-developed processor seems not far away from being released. According to relevant sources, OPPO’s self-developed mobile phone processor will be built with a 4nm process, and the foundry manufacturer may be TSMC, which has already started tape-out, and then the 5G SOC chip.
According to previous relevant news, in order to successfully develop its own mobile phone processor, OPPO has invested tens of billions of yuan and thousands of IC design and development personnel in Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai and other places for research and development. Previously, relevant sources predicted that OPPO’s mobile phone processors will start tape-out in the second half of 2023, and terminal products may come out in 2024. At present, the progress of OPPO seems to be much faster than predicted. In the second half of this year or next year, we may be able to see the launch of OPPO mobile phones equipped with self-developed processors.
