The OPPO Reno 10 5G is a smartphone for tough times. It features some of the best technology from the OPPO Find series First impression – Huge camera housing – Pass+
The huge pill-shaped camera housing protrudes and points upwards (use a bumper housing, otherwise it will wobble on the table). It houses three sensors and a flash. While the 10 Pro+ has a 64MP 3X optical OIS periscope telephoto – this camera comes with a very good 32MP telephoto with 2X/20X optical/space zoom.
The AMOLED panel on the front is gorgeous, bright, colorful, and has slightly curved edges. It is protected by the new AGC Dragontail Star-2 float glass, which has similar properties to Gorilla Glass Victus. The chrome frame has a gentle curve and hides the antenna strips. The back is OPPO’s unique iridescent PMMA (acrylic glass). The ice blue color looks very outstanding and elegant.
Its most important feature is the dual hybrid SIM/micro-SD, which allows the installation of expansion. It’s great for storing photos, videos, and music.
Interestingly, it has an IR blaster on top, complete with an app that lets you control just about anything.
OPPO is pushing a 10-bit/1.07 billion color screen at this price, while Samsung is stuck with 8-bit/16.7 million colors. The difference in color, brightness, and contrast is like chalk and cheese (OPPO has the edge). You’ll notice this most if you watch the color accuracy of HDR movies and photo previews. Processor – MediaTek Dimensity 7050 – via
One way OPPO keeps costs down is by using the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 7050 system-on-chip (SoC). The Dimensity chip offers decent performance (similar to the Qualcomm SD888) and better battery life.
It’s a decent mid-range chip that’s more than adequate for mobile tasks. Gaming performance is average. You can read its benchmarks here.
OPPO developed the Dynamic Compute Engine (DCE) to better balance computing power and battery life, managing multiple background apps, which is most evident in the OPPO smartphones Battery test.
It has 8GB of RAM – another interesting feature is its RAM expansion. You can borrow up to 16GB of additional virtual RAM from a slower SSD – a perfect companion to the DCE.
The 256GB UFS 2.1 SSD (210GB free) is also expandable via micro-SD (up to 1TB), making it ideal for storing photos, videos, and audio. The USB-C 2.0 port supports external SSDs in On-the-Go mode for backup.
Throttling – None – Exceeded
