Samsung Galaxy Watch 5: Everything you need to know

As the maker of some of the most capable and desirable smartwatches on the market, Samsung has carved a path for itself, and the signs of the next entry in the Galaxy Watch line keep emerging.

New rumors about the design and features of the Galaxy Watch 5 have started to emerge, with the possibility of an expandable display being one of the more outlandish rumors, along with talk of a “Pro” model. That’s all we know so far, let’s take a look!

When will the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 be released?
Samsung has confirmed that it will be streaming the Galaxy Unpacked event on August 10. It starts at 9am ET/2pm BST.

Unpacked is where Galaxy hardware is usually released, and in addition to the foldable Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, we’re also looking forward to seeing a new line of Galaxy Watch 5, rumored to be the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. This will be the first time Samsung has used “Pro” in the naming of its Galaxy Watch, which has used various monikers such as “Active” and “Classic” in the past.

The only deviation from this pattern came when Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch Active and was followed by the Watch Active 2 in March and September 2019, respectively. Now that this appears to be a retired model, the company is back to releasing the standard Galaxy Watch entry.

What new features will the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 offer?
Samsung hasn’t made any official announcements about the Watch 5, so we’re relying on leaks and rumors for now.

Reliable leaker Evan Blass (evleaks) has teamed up with 91Mobiles to release what they claim to be official renders of the Galaxy Watch 5 and 5 Pro. Blass says the Pro will be available in black or gray, and with Bluetooth or Bluetooth and LTE connectivity.

The blue Watch 5 will reportedly have a larger case size, but smaller versions will also be shipped. It also leaks in black and white. Both the Watch 5 and Watch Pro will feature sapphire crystal displays, 5ATM water resistance and GPS.

SamMobile discovered two separate batteries in March for two different Galaxy Watch 5 models, which passed the Korean safety certification. Part number EB-BR900ABY is believed to be related to the SM-R900 (the successor to the 40mm Galaxy Watch 4), which has a capacity of 276mAh, up from last year’s model’s 247mAh. At the same time, the EB-BR910ABY is connected to the 44mm Galaxy Watch 5 (SM-R910), and the capacity is increased from 361mAh to 397mAh.

Other battery details also point to the potential of the Galaxy Watch 5 “Pro” model. Sources told SamMobile that the device with model number SM-R925 could pack a huge 572mAh battery.

Since then, SamMobile has claimed that the Classic model will be completely replaced by the Pro model, and according to Ice Universe, the Watch 5 Pro won’t retain the rotating bezel that the current Watch 4 Classic has, and will feature a titanium case with a sapphire crystal-protected case. display.

While it was initially rumored that the Galaxy Watch 5 would come in two sizes, while the Pro model would only have one — associated with the codenames “Heart-S”, “Heart-L” and “Heart Pro” respectively — it now looks like there will only be one size The Watch 5 and the Watch 5 Pro in one size are available.

While multiple sources have denied the claim that the Watch 5 will come in three sizes, one of the most concrete developments to date lies in Samsung’s own Galaxy Watch 4 One UI 4.5 Beta, which features placeholders Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro.

It also reinforces the idea that the Pro won’t have a rotating bezel, because when the Watch 4 series came out in beta last year, only the Classic used the image of the Watch 3 as a placeholder, since that was the latest watch with a rotating bezel.

According to Korean news source ETNews, a thermometer function will also be part of the Watch 5 equation; for detecting fever, as well as helping women with cycle tracking.

As for what else the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series might bring, we expect the Samsung One UI Watch interface, as well as Google’s Wear OS software, to continue to evolve, as both companies work to develop devices that can match or even topple the Apple Watch. But from a hardware standpoint, it’s probably just an iterative upgrade, unless Samsung has something special.
