Roomba i3+ EVO vs. Roomba i6+

iRobot’s Roomba line of robot vacuums offers a variety of models, ranging from basic to advanced. Premium models like the i3+ EVO and i6+ make it easier to clean your home than the brand’s entry-level robots, but choosing between the two can be a little tricky.

Both the Roomba i3+ EVO and i6+ come with 1,800 mAH lithium-ion batteries. Their

Roomba vacuum battery

is rated for 75 minutes of runtime, which is on the lower side for premium Roomba models. However, both robots come with a recharge and resume feature, so their battery life isn’t as critical as models without this feature.

This feature allows the i3+ EVO and i6+ to return to their base to recharge when the  Roomba i3+ EVO battery and Roomba i6+battery  is low, and then pick up where they left off once fully charged. This means you never have to worry about your robot dying in the middle of a cleaning job and not being able to complete it.

Maintenance

The i3+ EVO and i6+ require fairly simple maintenance. iRobot recommends cleaning the brushes once a week, or twice a week if you have pets. You should also clean the dustbin by removing it from the robot, taking out the filter and rinsing it with warm water. When you remove the filter, clean it, too, by tapping it against the side of the dustbin to knock out any loose debris. Dry the dustbin thoroughly, reinsert the filter and reinstall it in the robot. Once a month, it’s also a good idea to wipe down the sensors on the bottom front edge of the robot, as well as the wheels, to keep it moving nice and smooth.

The i3+ EVO and i6+’s brushes and filters need to be replaced frequently. Brushes typically last between 6 and 12 months, while filters should be replaced every two months. If you’re not sure if a component needs to be replaced, check the Product Health tab in the iRobot Home app to see how much cleaning time it has left.

Roomba i3+ EVO hype

Battery for the Roomba i3+ EVO

It’s rated for 75 minutes of battery life, but when we tested it, it cleaned for 96 minutes on a charge. It’s roughly the same size as other robot vacuums, including the i6+, and can maneuver under a lot of furniture. Its dustbin capacity is 0.5 liters, which is on the large side for a Roomba. However, the robot can empty its dustbin into its base, so its internal dustbin size isn’t a big factor, as the base can hold up to 60 days of dust.

The original i3+ was released in 2020, but it was renamed the i3+ EVO two years later when iRobot added smart mapping to it. It uses iRobot’s iAdapt 3.0 software to learn the layout of your home, but it lacks a camera like the i6+ to aid navigation. It can, however, use its smart mapping feature to clean an entire floor or just selected rooms. The i3+ EVO also allows for scheduled cleaning; during testing, we found it easy to set it to clean daily at a specific time or weekly at a time of our choosing.

Roomba i6 Battery

The battery life is 75 minutes, but like the i3+ EVO, it comes with a charge and resume feature that allows the Roomba i6 to return to its base to charge and continue cleaning from where it left off when its battery runs low. So the shorter runtime isn’t a big deal. Its size is similar to the i3+ EVO and other Roomba The models are nearly identical, except that its dustbin is 100ml smaller than the i3+ EVO. However, it is a self-emptying model, so when the dustbin is full, it will return home to empty the dustbin and then continue cleaning.

The i6+ uses iRobot’s iAdapt 3.0 and vSLAM (Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) software and has a top-mounted camera to help it understand your floor plan. It can clean specific rooms, but it will also learn about areas and objects around your home for more precise cleaning. The i6+ also allows you to schedule cleaning times to ensure your floors are as clean as possible.
