Xiaomi has started bringing more laptops to the Indian PC market. Following the ambitious Mi Notebook series, the company has now launched two new laptops under the Redmi brand, with Xiaomi sending the 15-inch Pro model for review. We have just started using this notebook and wanted to share our first impressions with you. Pros Minimalist design that looks subtle The RedmiBook 15 Pro isn’t going to set any new design benchmarks; however, it’s definitely not a bad-looking laptop. The soft brushed metal finish and stealthy black (charcoal grey) colour give it a premium touch. The polycarbonate construction isn’t impressive but feels durable enough to last for a few years. You can even lift the lid with just one finger thanks to the sturdy hinge design. It has a large trackpad and supports Windows Precision drivers, so navigation is smooth and fun. Overall, the minimalist look and feel will please consumers who prefer laptops with an understated look. The RedmiBook Pro comes with the most-needed connectivity features but it’s missing just one, which is a Type-C port. For wireless connectivity, the laptop has 2 X 2 dual-band Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth V5.0.
Big Hardware The RedmiBook 15 Pro is very responsive. During the time I tested this laptop, the laptop never felt lagging in terms of speed and performance. It boots up quickly and loads apps instantly. The laptop can easily handle multiple tabs in Edge and Chrome browsers, streaming videos simultaneously on Amazon Prime Videos, working on multiple Word documents, and editing photos in third-party apps. It seems to be more than adequate for entertainment and basic productivity tasks. We will run some benchmarks and try playing casual games and some video editing in our detailed review to test the potential of this laptop. Next, the RedmiBook 15 Pro laptop batterylife seems to be very long. The laptop is powered by a 46WHr battery, which is claimed to give the RedmiBook 15 Pro battery life of up to 10 hours. A 65W charger is included in the box, which according to Redmi can charge the laptop from flat to 50% in 35 minutes. Last but not least, the RedmiBooks come with a 720p webcam, while the higher-end Mi laptops require an additional webcam.
Cons Let’s get to the things that let us down. At this price point, it would have been nice if the display was a bit better and the construction a bit more solid. The screen resolution is not an issue, but the panel quality seems to be low-quality. The Full HD LCD screen is highly reflective and is only adequate for basic everyday PC tasks. Unfortunately, media consumption will not be one of them. Next, the RedmiBook 15 Pro’s keyboard lacks a number pad, which is a bit surprising for a 15-inch laptop. Thankfully, the good 1.5mm key travel ensures a good typing experience.
I didn’t find any X-Factor with the RedmiBook 15 Pro, but the excellent specs and the claimed 10-hour RedmiBook 15 Pro battery
life seem to be its highlight. This 15-inch laptop comes with a 512GB SSD and a powerful 11th-generation Intel Core i5-11300H CPU, and it looks like a decent Windows machine for most users. It may not be a performance beast, but for most everyday tasks, it shouldn’t let you down.
