GoPro pioneered the action camera genre and dominated it for years. However, in the past few years, the competition has finally caught up, and the Hero 13 still has a lot to prove to long-time GoPro users and newcomers interested in buying their first action camera.

While the GoPro Hero 13 Black seems to be just an incremental upgrade for the most part, this camera does bring something new and exciting to the table. In the past, Hero cameras’ interchangeable lenses had no way of communicating with the camera. However, the Hero 13 solves this problem, with electronic communication between the lens and camera that allows the Hero 13 to automatically adapt to several new and upcoming lens modifications. This opens up a lot of exciting possibilities, and I’m excited to get the chance to explore them
