Acer Swift X review: What you need to know

The Acer Swift X 16 is one of a new generation of 16-inch Windows laptops that aims to be a do-it-all mobile workstation with some lightweight gaming capabilities; other models include the ultra-light LG Gram 16, Huawei MateBook 16s or the more obviously gamer-centric HP Omen 16, as well as my personal favorite, the Dell Inspiron 16 Plus. The left and right edges feature two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C and a pair of USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, as well as an HDMI 2.1 connector and a 3.5mm audio jack. This is a fairly generous choice when many competitors ditch ports for aesthetics. However, the lack of a memory card reader is disappointing, and since there is no dedicated charging port, you lose one of the USB-C ports to power the Acer Swift X 16 battery

power supply. Acer Swift X review: keyboard, touchpad and webcam

The keyboard is typical Acer style. The layout is sensible and the dimensions are generous, with a number pad on the right, but the key action is a little thin, but it’s accurate and responsive. It’s also rich in color, producing up to 110.3% of the sRGB color space, while the Delta E color accuracy relative to sRGB is a commendable 1.4 (lower is better, 0 is perfect).

Adobe RGB and DCI-P3 color spaces are only 76% and 78% respectively, which is poor performance, which will limit the Swift X’s appeal to professional photographers. Acer Swift X review: performance and

Acer Swift X 16 battery Life

This is the fourth time we’ve tested a machine built around Intel’s 12-core Core i7-1260P processor, but this is the first time we’ve encountered it in conjunction with a discrete GPU, so it’s worth a brief introduction to Intel’s new GPU.

Intel’s new Arc series GPUs come in three models, numbered 3, 5 and 7. The lower-end parts of the two 3-series GPUs come with 4GB of dedicated vRAM, and a maximum TGP of 30W for the A350M, or 50W for the A370M. The maximum frequencies of each are also different, with the A350M0 peaking at 1,150Mhz, while the A370M peaks at 1,550MHz. The Swift X 16 uses the more powerful A370M.

On a video test, which involves turning the display brightness down to 170cd/m2, enabling airplane mode, and running a low-resolution video in VLC, the Acer Swift X 16’s 56Wh Acer Swift X 16 Laptop Battery lasted 8 hours and 12 minutes.

That’s not impressive, especially since the 16-inch LG Gram and Huawei MateBook 16s lasted 12 hours and 25 minutes and 9 hours and 51 minutes, respectively, but there are worse products. I was able to get through a full workday at the office on a single charge of the Acer Swift X 16 laptop battery, and that was certainly no problem. Acer Swift X review: Verdict For the list price, the Acer Swift X 16 is a good, solid laptop. The display and sound system are good, while the build quality and keyboard are top-notch. The port selection is good, too, as is overall performance. The problem is that, at least in this case, the new Intel GPU isn’t particularly impressive. I’m sure Acer has a cost advantage in fitting the A370M instead of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 — and indeed, the Swift X 16 isn’t overpriced without a discrete GPU — but it’s simply not enough to turn a good laptop into an exceptional one.
