Both halves of this laptop are well-made and well-designed, with an all-aluminum body that looks seamless when closed and feels very solid when separated. In short, this is probably the sturdiest laptop I’ve ever used, which can only be a good thing. It feels great.
Limited ports and Smart Connect Connecting the two halves is the Smart Connector, which drives the display and camera of the Windows PC in the dock, as well as the keyboard, trackpad, and power supply for the tablet. In fact, the dock will charge the tablet via the Smart Connector, so you can still charge it like a normal laptop. Keyboard and touchpad Lenovo rarely misses this one. As always, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid’s keyboard is very comfortable to type on, with all the keys perfectly spaced and in the right place (unlike some ThinkPad models) The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid’s keyboard is very comfortable to type on Of course, you can use it on both Windows and Android, and importantly, since you can use the Hybrid Station as a standalone desktop PC, it works well there, too. It may not be as comfortable as a full-fledged desktop keyboard, but I still enjoyed using it in that context. Likewise, the touchpad is pretty good and feels great. The touch feels very smooth and responsive. Just like the keyboard, it works on both Android and Windows, and in Android it has the advantage of properly replacing certain touch actions. I can scroll up with two fingers to open my app drawer, or scroll down to see my notifications. The biggest problem with using a trackpad on Android is that there is no palm rejection, so whenever you type, you move the mouse or click places you don’t want to click, thus messing up what you are writing. I initially wanted to measure the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid Laptop Battery life by using Android for a full day, but ultimately I had to abandon the idea.
Considering the crazy concept we are going with here, Lenovo really did a great job with this device, and I love it. It’s not the most versatile laptop for work or travel, but it is a versatile machine that I can’t help but love.
