Apple Watch Series 8: Everything you need to know

Apple announced the arrival of the Apple Watch Series 8 at its “Far Out” event on September 7. Expected to be the biggest year ever for the Apple Watch, the brand did not disappoint, releasing not only the Series 8, but also the new Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Ultra.

Series 8 smartwatch models will feature a new low-power mode that gives you 36 hours of battery life, temperature sensors, and crash detection. The new watch will go on sale on September 16.

When will the Apple Watch Series 8 be released?
As expected, Apple announced the new Apple Watch at its “Far Out” event on September 7. After the event, the Series 8 is available for pre-order now and will go on sale on September 16.

Color options
It looks as if we’re saying goodbye to the blue and green options. Apple Watch Series 8 will be available in two sizes of aluminum and stainless steel cases: 41mm and 45mm. Aluminium housings are available in Starlight, Midnight, Silver and (PRODUCT)RED. Stainless steel is available in silver, graphite and gold. As ever, they can be paired with any band you like.

There will be new Apple Watch Nike and Apple Watch Hermès bands, and any watch running watchOS 9 will be able to access the Nike watch face.

What’s new in Apple Watch Series 8?
New features unique to Apple Watch Series 8 are rare. Apple Watch Series 4 and later will offer some features, such as a new low-power mode. Additionally, the main rumored design change is related to the new Apple Watch Ultra.

Temperature sensor
The Series 8 will feature an innovative new sensor set, including two temperature sensors: one on the back of the watch, close to the skin, and one below the display. The sensor will sample the wrist temperature every five seconds during sleep, measuring changes as small as 0.1°C. Users will be able to track temperature changes in the health app, which can help them identify signs of impending illness.

It’s also a key part of the new cycle tracking feature, which will provide female users with retrospective ovulation estimates. This helps with family planning, although Apple is well aware that it should not be used as a form of birth control. Additionally, Cycle Tracking users can opt-in to receive notifications of deviations that may point to potential health problems.

Crash detection
When the Apple Watch detects a serious car crash, it sends an alert to the user. If they don’t respond, the watch will call emergency services and notify them of the crash site’s location. Emergency contacts will also be notified.

The feature is based on a new, more powerful gyroscope and industry-leading accelerometers that are leveraged by algorithms created using data from professional crash test labs.

Low power mode
One of the big new features on the new Watch Series 8 is Low Power Mode. As Apple Watch fans know, this is a feature that Apple smartwatches haven’t had so far. While the Series 8 has an always-on display, it can be turned off to extend battery life. You should be able to use the Series 8 for up to 36 hours in this mode. But as we said, starting with the Series 4, all Apple Watches will be rolling out Low Power Mode.
