Since iOS 16 was rolled out to the public, the new software has had a rough start, with users complaining of multiple bugs. This includes everything from camera “shake” on the new iPhone 14 Pro to excessive copy/paste permissions.

While most of the original iOS 16 bugs have been fixed by Apple, two weeks after iOS 16’s release, one key issue appears to remain — iPhone battery life is draining.

Several users took to Twitter, Reddit and TikTok to complain that the iOS 16 update appears to be affecting their iPhone battery life. Users have reported a “significant” drop in battery life on their iPhones after installing the new iOS 16 update.

Apple initially mentioned that the haptic keyboard feature on iOS 16 could drain the iPhone’s battery. The Apple support page for the feature even mentions that “turning on keyboard haptics may affect iPhone battery life.” But even after turning off the feature, people are reportedly facing the same problem.

On the day the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro were released, Apple prepared the iOS 16.0.1 update to fix initial issues, and then recently released a second iOS 16.0.2 update to fix bugs like camera shake and copy/paste permissions on the iPhone 14 series. Unfortunately, the iOS 16.0.2 update doesn’t seem to help some users with battery life issues.

Some heavy operating systems do cause a slight dip in battery life, which is normal to a certain extent. But this time, the battery drain issue appears to be serious and seems to be affecting many users.

Is there an iOS 16 battery drain fix?
According to user complaints, the affected iPhones appear to include the iPhone XR all the way up to the iPhone 13 series, although there may be others.

Apple Support has been responding to some users asking them to try restarting the phone, or if that doesn’t work, they say users should do a restore. We also recommend trying turning off haptic keyboard feedback in Settings under Sounds & Haptics.

Since iOS 16.0.2 hasn’t fixed the battery issue, we’re hoping for another patch update (iOS 16.0.3) to fix the battery issue, but haven’t seen any signs so far. iOS 16.1 second beta is here, and while it continues to change the battery percentage icon, there’s no word on it improving iPhone battery life.

If Apple does bring a battery life fix to iOS 16.1, we probably won’t see it roll out until next month, possibly alongside iPad OS 16.1 and MacOS Ventura.

In addition to battery drain, Apple’s unresolved list of bugs includes a slow and slightly glitchy spotlight search, a CarPlay issue affecting the iPhone 14 Pro, and some flickering display issues that appear to be affecting low-bright iPhone displays. Hopefully these issues will also be quickly fixed in Apple’s next OS update.
