DJI’s action cameras have been upgraded to “Pro,” and along with that name comes a big improvement in battery life and image sensor. DJI has been making very good action cameras for a while now, and its latest, the Osmo Action 5 Pro, focuses on extending DJI Action 5 Pro camera battery life, allowing us to shoot for longer.
This sensor, combined with improved image processing, greatly improves low-light performance, surpassing the previous generation DJI Action 4 as well as the GoPro Hero 13, DJI’s biggest competitor in the action camera space. The camera can shoot up to 4K/120fps for stabilized footage, or if you drop down to 1080p, 240fps for smooth slow-motion video. Thanks to the large sensor and 13.5 stops of dynamic range, video clips and still photos shot with the camera look great.
The DJI Action 5 Pro battery is also replaceable, and in some kits the DJI camera comes with two more batteries in a slim charging case, giving a total of 12 hours of shooting time. The Action 5 Pro also has a new camera sensor, which measures 1/1.3 inches, which is relatively large in the action camera space.
The camera has a magnetic mount that works perfectly with the DJI mount included in the package. If you want to shoot vertical video, there is a cage (also included in the package) that adds an additional bracket on the left side.
While most action cameras run out of juice after 90-120 minutes, the DJI Action 5 Pro can last for 240 minutes, or about 4 hours.

The Action 5 Pro has a color touchscreen on the front and back. The front screen is 1.5″ and rated at 800 nits, while the rear screen is a 2.5″ 16:9 panel that’s very bright at 1000 nits. The rear screen doesn’t flip up like some action cameras, so if you’re shooting with the camera pointed at you, you’ll have to rely on the smaller front screen for a preview. I didn’t have any issues with that, though, as the 1.5″ screen is a bit of a pain to watch. Overall, the DJI Action 5 Pro is probably the best action camera out there, all things considered.
