Sony vice president admits: Sony E-mount system did not consider full-frame

Today, in the mirrorless camera market, Sony should be the manufacturer with the highest market share. Part of the reason why many consumers choose Sony’s mirrorless cameras is the perfect E-mount system of Sony cameras. According to DPReview’s statistics, as of April 2022, the number of E-mount lenses has reached 251. Sony’s complete lens group is undoubtedly very attractive to consumers.

Recently,”Nikkei Business” published an interview report on Sony Group Vice Chairman Shigeki Ishizuka’s review of the company’s digital camera development track. According to Shigeki Ishizuka, the E-mount did not envisage full-frame and a full range of lenses at all. It was developed with rhythm and momentum at first, and then turned to a real mirrorless system. Moreover, when Sony introduced the mirrorless camera, it also had a very serious discussion on the choice of joining the M4/3 camp. If Sony had decided to join the M4/3, the power map of each mount would be completely different from what it is now.

There are currently rumors that Sony will release a full-frame camera ZV-E1 at the end of this month. This product is expected to use the same 12-megapixel sensor as the Sony α7S III, and support 4K 120P Video recording, and will also be equipped with the autofocus system and better detection system of the Sony α7R V, while providing more AI functions. In addition, this camera may be somewhat similar in design to Sony’s ZV-E10 currently on sale, but the size will be slightly increased. Finally, there are predictions that the price of this full-frame ZV-E1 will be below 2,500 US dollars.
